Trick or Treating 2013

We went to our old neighborhood to trick or treat this year. It’s fun to see our old neighbors and our new house is a little more “country” and we don’t get trick or treaters. Our little monkey’s were excited about the loot they were going to see it was like pulling teeth to get pictures. They did manage to give me the one below…

We were accompanied this year by Chris, Bethany and “Granny” Linda – so fun and SO nice to have the extra eyes to help watch all of our little people. As the sun went down they were hard to see in their dark costumes!

Linda, Me, Bethany and below Brody, Korb, B & Kylee posing in front of a scary cat! It was at this particular house we got bombarded by a bunch of big kids at once. Trying to keep an eye on all of ours among the group we heard Kylee frantically yell “Nooo, NOO, STOP IT, Stoooopp it! NOOO!!” When we asked her what was wrong she said that someone stole the sucker she had been eating. We all sorta brushed it off and told her she could get another one later.

A few blocks away, Baxlyn went to reach into another bucket of candy and we noticed a green sucker stuck right in the fur of her costume. It took a minute but Bethany and I both started laughing hysterically when we realized it was Kylee’s sucker. Kylee laid eyes on it and yelled “THAT’S MY SUCKER!!” Absolutely hilarious!

hal5The quads did really well walking door to door. They made it down 3 streets or so and loved looking at the decorations!

Like every year, Kylee managed to work herself to every front door she could in search of dogs…

Baby Blade had fun too! This was technically his second time trick or treating. Last year he was 6 days old and we got home from the hospital the day before Halloween so I was wheeled down the sidewalk to watch the quads with him in my arms…crazy how quickly the past year flew by! He chugged along in the ole’ choo choo wagon and Daddy even treated him to a sucker!

Last but not least, the pumpkins they (and by “they”, I mean I) carved. After gutting their pumpkins, I let them “draw” a face on their own and I did the carving… 1 mom, 4 4 year olds covered in goo and 4 pumpkins to carve…f u n ! In birth order left to right Brody, Baxlyn, Kylee & Korbin!

Sadly, I think this was the last year I could choose their costumes :( 5 years isn’t so bad! They’re all very excited about picking their own for next year and in fact, they have already picked… as of right now Brody wants to be a “little duck”. His Granny Linda has a yellow rain jacket that he believes is a costume so he wants to match her. Baxlyn has a thing for rainbows and unicorns lately and decided she wants to be a rainbow. Kylee has a new found love for Cinderella so chose her and Korbin wants to be a frog for next year’s Halloween. It will be fun to see where they all *really* land next year on their decisions. Who knows?! Here’s a look back at their costumes over the years…

September? What September?

Hello, my name is Heather. I have 5 sweet babies including a set of quadruplets and a chunky almost one year old who goes by the name of Blade. Thanks for visiting my neglected blog. Feel free to swat at the spider webs as you enter…

Heather Cox

OK really though. Not blogging the ENTIRE month of September? That’s a little ridiculous and we all know that. Thanks for those of you who checked in on us via comments and emails. We’re all happy, healthy and doing fine! Life’s been a whirlwind lately and some BIG things have happened over the past month that I hope I can one day blog about...eek!

Brody, Baxlyn, Kylee & Korbin are still enjoying preschool. They’ve adjusted so well and we all enjoy our little break we get from each other each day! Blade and I have a few hours to ourselves each day – we play, laugh, he goes down for a nap and mama catches up on the never ending laundry and housework. I’m not sure how it happened but we’re planning his FIRST birthday party and I am super excited – stay tuned ;) At 11 months Blade is crawling and cruising everywhere, stands for just a second independently, signs “more”, does great with most table foods, has two teeth and is cutting four more! He loves dancing, emptying the sippy cup drawer, playing in the toilet (behind mama’s back, of course, calm down people!), going to Sunday School each Sunday morning and enjoys his LONG Sunday all afternoon naps! Here’s my little man exploring in the grass for the first time. Not too sure of it at first but soon enough he found it acceptable to not only sit in but to eat as well.

He’s also discovered the fun let’s-throw-all-of-the-balls-out-of-the-ball-pit game. This time around rather than 4 babies against one mama, I now have 1 baby against 4 siblings so clean up is no big deal at all!

Photo: Someone learned the lets-throw-all-the-balls-out-of-the-ball-pit game. On the plus side its not four against one this time :)

We attended our 4th NICU reunion a few weeks ago – FOURTH! Such a blessing! Here’s the fab four striking some very interesting poses outside Dr. Leveno’s office. Kylee is getting taller by the day, that girl is alllll legs. I’m convinced Baxlyn will always be a petite little thing. Now days she’s weighing in at about 34lbs while the others are a good 3lbs heavier. Crazy to think their FIFTH birthday is quickly approaching…

sept4

Kylee, FAR from over her fear of characters, clung to Daddy most of the time as SpongeBob and Elmo were lurking around each corner. Brody was nervous, but with the help of one of his former NICU nurses, Michelle, he was brave enough to say hi to SpongeBob. One day helping him fight for his life, the next day helping him be brave in the face of a giant yellow sponge – these nurses do it all, people.

sept2

Of course I have to post our annual family picture. I swear they know that unlike when Mommy takes 679 pictures to capture ONE shot, we only have ONE chance for a picture at our reunions. They all take advantage and do their best to sabotage that one shot. Thanks B for the smile!

 sept1

With Kylee glued to Bret’s shoulder while trying to make no eye contact with the walking most terrifying scariest creatures on earth, I was left pushing Blade’s stroller and trying to keep track of the other 3 who kept making a mad dash for the food tables. It was all a little busy so we headed upstairs where we found our beloved Dr. Lucena, one of the quads’ neonatologists. We’re lucky enough to run into him pretty often and each time he INSISTS on heading over to the “big baby” nursery windows so we can get pictures on the steps! I love how Blade gladly flashes a huge grin for the camera as if he knows this is all about him, sweet chunk.

sept3

My freak show on wheels, my limo, my once only source of freedom, my Runabout. We SOLD it! We’ve been “trying” to sell it for a year or so now but obviously there are not many people in the market for a quadruplet stroller. The few people who are interested live across the country and shipping is nearly impossible with its size and weight. I loaded it up and took it to our moms of multiples garage sale a couple of weeks ago TOTALLY not expecting it to sell. Low and behold, some new parents of 2 month old triplets (awwwee!) laid eyes on it and I could tell it was mine no longer. After talking with Bret for a couple of hours about it, getting the scoop on the pros and cons, doing test runs on getting it onto the back of their car etc. the sweet couple decided they were taking it home. No lie, I held back tears as she handed me the money and I said good bye to the stroller I swore I would NEVER get caught pushing. We still have our choo choo wagon. We don’t use it for regular outings but still find it handy for our zoo trips. Saying goodbye to the Runabout was the worst, next to selling their infant car seats. So bittersweet!

runabout

A little play date after school one day. After 5 minutes of play, a quick group picture, a trek all the way back to the car for a certain someone who needed to potty (yup, we’re still rockin’ the potty seats in the van), another 5 minutes of play, telling another certain someone to pull up his pants that it’s NOT ok to pee in the flowers planted at the park and the quickly rising Texas heat WE WERE DONE!

sept5

Super special thanks to my mom. Yesterday was “one of those days” – you moms know what I’m talking about. My mom gladly came out to keep the quads entertained so that Blade and I could make a trip to Wal-Mart (yes…my day was THAT rough, Wal-Mart sounded like a getaway in itself) to do a little therapy shopping. Our result was some fresh fall yard decorations! Speaking of fall…. holy cute 2013 Halloween costumes!!!!!!!! You Facebook peeps were lucky enough to get a sneak peek. Stay tuned as there’s more to come :)

Until November…

Kidding, more to come very soon, I promise ;)

Halloween 2011 The Flintstones & The Rubbles

This was the first year Brody, Baxlyn , Kylee & Korbin actually kinda grasped the whole Halloween/Tick or Treat idea. We've taken them each year but this was the first year they could all walk themselves and go door to door. We headed out early in hopes to beat the big kids and scary monsters but at our slow pace they caught up quickly! We went to the first house, they knocked, the door opened and IN they went to make themselves at home! We had practiced "trick or treat" all day but I failed to mention to them that we don't just barge in other people's homes...whoops!

Us adults watching from the sidewalk as they unexpectedly walk into the neighbors house...Below we have Baxlyn leading the pack, as always, screaming "Fick or Fweet!" Poor girl hasn't really perfected her "T" sound just yet. (BTW, very unfortunate when you're in a store and you see a Fire Truck... "MOM, look, a Fiah %&#!")This lady was pretty good at standing between them and the inside of her house. While the other three went for the candy, Brody was all about the cat behind her!The cutest lil' Fred Flintstone ever!It was a little tricky keeping them altogether as Korbin was always the last to leave each house, repeatedly grabbing handfuls of candy as fast as he could while the bucket was within his reach. Kylee stopped to check out her loot after each house as well as the decorations in people's yards. Then we had Brody who was so easily distracted by the UPS truck, airplanes, flowers, cats...etc. By the time they all made it to the next porch Baxlyn had already rung the "Ding Bell" a good 30 times :/ Kylee goes for the Skittles while Korbin contemplates how he can get the rest of the candy into his little bucket without being told, once again, "Just a few, sweetie!"Sweet little Betty checkin' out more decor! "Care-cwows Mom!"Love love this one as our little animal lover loves on the front porch doggy while the others knock!Slowly but surely they (and by "they" I mean Korbin) got a little less patient with the residents. As they'd rush each door we would hear a sweet "Tick or Teet!"....pause... and then a not so sweet "TICK OR TEEEEEET!!!""Come on guys!"Hitting up the last few houses in the choo choo!We got back home to watch more kids and pass out candy of our own. I was surprised at how many people acted as if they "came to see the quads". All night we would hear people talking and whispering to eachother about how they've grown, their names and their costumes over the past couple of years! The quads watched as tons of kids came and went as they munched on some of the candy they had gotten. This was hands down, the longest they've ever sat together in one place allowing for a ton of pics... not one picture of them looking at me, but a group pic nonetheless! This was the look on Kylee's face most of the night as kids came with masks and costumes. The girl freaks out pretty easily and last night was a little rough on her. The poor thing tried to be brave as she looked at me, shook her head and said "Not cary, not cary...not carrry waaahhhh!"

Our little Wilma, as brave as can be, could have lasted all night!

They were all in bed by 8pm and us adults went on with our own Halloween festivities... pizza, candy, scary masks and music and little innocent little kids.....muuuahhhaahhhhhaaa! Kylee woke up this morning and said "Mom, I go Tick or Feet (with) my bucket now?" LOL No sweetie, we have to wait another year! We hope you all had a fun, safe Halloween as well!
